I started working on Raining Penguins when I lived in Portland, Oregon in the spring of 2008. I wanted to work with my hands, use my creative abilities, and support the environmental movement, while supporting myself.
Our logo is simple. It's got a Penguin holding an umbrella. What does it mean? Well that’s actually open to interpretation. For me it symbolizes the possibility for abundance and a sustainable future for life on Earth. I'm talking about life for other beings we share this planet with as well as humans. Life forms that have no means of communication with the rest of the world, and people like you and I who have been inspired to make a difference but don't always know where to begin. It also conveys a sense of urgency because we all know time stops for no one and our environment is changing at an alarming rate. This is bad for humans and very bad indeed for penguins.
Our tagline is Clothing for a Blue Planet. Blue stands for water, liquid or frozen. Blue Planet signifies a water planet, our Earth, and the health of our oceans, rivers, watersheds and water resources. Oceans cover 71% of the Earth's surface. Penguins are aquatic birds. Hence, our support for clean oceans, rivers and watersheds, pollution prevention, sustainable water management practices, fisheries and aquatic wildlife management. Charitable contributions from Raining Penguins will go to non-profits that support these causes.
We are a very small company. I create the designs for our products and perform most of the screen making and printing myself. My dad helps with everything and I’m also getting a lot of support from other friends and family who believe in what I’m doing.
Raining Penguins provides a way for us to express our beliefs and concerns about our environment and the impacts of our consumer driven society. Our conviction is that we all must make a commitment to change and participate in the process if we’re going to create a sustainable environment, for humans as well as other living things on our planet.
Our mission is to create more awareness of the need for conscious living and active involvement in changing our world into a better place. We hope to be a catalyst for new perceptions, epiphany, and change. In the process we also want to have fun and create art that we enjoy wearing.
Thanks for visiting our website.
